kind of producer - dirty musician - sound engineer

Niura is stories, lives, earth, sweat; a Sicilian band, born at the foot of Etna Volcano, in Sicily.

The project is based on folk, contaminated by the sounds of the Mediterranean: a musical journey that starts from North Africa, with a strong "Afro" component, moves towards the East where Arab and Western cultures intertwine, and lands in Sicily where Niura has its cultural roots. These influences are put together in a coherent musical form where rhythm and expressive force are central, involving different types of audiences in a transversal way.
Niura sings in its native language, Sicilian, in its roughest, most direct expression.
Niura speaks to people. The themes that the project deals with are easily recognizable and understandable, speaking without filters of real life stories in which everyone can identify.

Under the guidance and artistic production of Daniele Grasso, for the label The Kids Are Alright of Catania, we have developed a well-defined and clear sound and identity.

On November 21, 2021, we made our live acoustic debut at ZO Centro Culture Contemporanee in Catania opening for the band NiggaRadio.
Over the course of 2022, the original lineup (Giada on vocals, Giuseppe on drums and percussion, Mario on bass, Matteo on guitar) expanded with the addition of Elisa Milazzo on vocals, who, with her rhythmic and musical background in folk tradition, further enriched the project.

2023 began with the news of our selection for the local finals of the 36th edition of Sanremo Rock, followed by our victory at the regional selections on July 28 in Avola.

On March 10, 2023, our first single, Un Postu Unni Durmiri, was released, which encapsulates the project's sonic essence and the hard work we've put in over the past year. It's a song that speaks of life with simplicity and a hint of bitterness, just as Niura's message is simple and direct.

In September of the same year, we performed the song "Cu ccu ll'hai" at the historic Ariston Theater in Sanremo for the national finals of Sanremo Rock 2023, receiving excellent reviews from the jury and marking an important step forward for the band.

In February 2024, Niura added Giulia and Danilo to the lineup, performing with the definitive lineup on March 22nd at the MA in Catania.

On July 1, 2025, we won second place at the Firenze Suona Contest 2025, in Florence.

Niura (“black”) is our music, the earth under our feet, the shade of our skin.
