Niura (= Black in Sicilian dialect) is the color of the earth we live on, it is the music we are inspired by and the shade of our skin.
Let's try to tell, sing, shout stories of our people, using the Sicilian dialect, on a concrete, bare, direct sound system.
“Accussì semu, e cussiva sunamu (=“This is how we are, and this is how we play it for you ”)

Biography
Niura is stories, lives, earth, sweat; a Sicilian band, born at the foot of Etna.
The project is based on folk, contaminated by the sounds of the Mediterranean: a musical journey that starts from North Africa, with a strong "Afro" component, moves towards the East, where Arab culture intertwines with Western culture, and lands in Sicily where Niura has her cultural roots. These influences are put together in a coherent musical form where rhythm and expressive force are central, involving different types of audiences in a transversal way.
Above all this, Niura sings in her language, Sicilian, in its roughest, most direct, clear and accessible expression.

Niura speaks to people. The themes that the project deals with are easily recognizable and understandable, speaking without filters of real life stories in which everyone can identify.
Under the guidance and artistic production of Daniele Grasso, for the label The Kids Are Alright of Catania, we have developed a well-defined and clear sound and identity.
Niura (“black”) is our music, the earth under our feet, the shade of our skin.
“Who is in my life, accussì campu and accussì cantu”

Elisa Milazzo - vocals, percussions
Giulia Fassari – vocals, percussions
